Why talfus-laddus?

The name ~talfus-laddus as well as the sigil (the website icon) originated from Urbit. I was into Urbit back when it was a young and visionary project to build an OS from scratch. (I booted my first instance of Urbit back in 2019.)

Unfortunately, the governance of the Urbit Foundation changed in 2024, and they put Curtis Yarvin in a leading position. He might have been the right person to conceive of Urbit and to set the technical groundwork, but in my opinion he is not the right person to mature the project and bring it to the masses. There is just too much controversy around him. (If you are interested in the controversy, you will have no trouble finding details online)

This shift in governance prompted me to distance myself from the project, though I continue to appreciate many of the core ideas. One of which is the Urbit address space. The space consists of a finite number of addresses which are represented by pronounceable names (E.g. ~mormet-bidren) as well as visually through sigils. I highly recommend the blog post about Creating Sigils by the Urbit foundation from 2020.

I have kinda grown attached to my Urbit address representation - ~talfus-laddus and my modified sigil - and I will continue to use them even though I do not stand behind some of the current events in the Urbit sphere.
